DOLPHINS WOMEN BLANKED BY DREW IN OPENER

CSI's Kelly Kenny and company were turned back by Drew, 6-0.

Drew University used a stifling defense and a first-half scoring barrage to turn back visiting College of Staten Island, 6-0, in the women’s soccer season opener for both teams played in Madison, New Jersey. The Dolphins have opened the season 0-1, and will have a seven-day layoff before picking up action next week.
The Rangers opened the scoring just 7:23 into the game, when Alyssa Goodman was left open inside the six-yard box and banged home a goal passed CSI keeper Lisa Radano off of a Courtney Carnavale lead pass. Drew then let their defense dictate play, never letting CSI close to its own goal. Meanwhile, at the 23:21 mark, Drew doubled their lead when Carnavale scored her goal off of an Emily Tine assist.
Drew scored twice more in the first frame, including a long-range missile from Kristin Blake and a Caitlin Dodge penalty shot off of a CSI foul inside the box at 41:12.
The Dolphins put fellow frosh Jessica Levy in-between the pipes in the second half, but Drew was able to add another pair of goals, both scored in the final six minutes of regulation, by Shamila Kohestani and Jenny Hicks, respectively.
CSI was outshot, 19-0 (12-0 on goal) and Drew enjoyed a 7-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Drew’s Kimberly Jaikisson and Dana DeBarros combined for the shutout.
The Dolphins will enjoy a full week off before returning to action on Friday, September 11. The team will host their first CUNYAC match against CCNY in a 3:00 pm game.
