SOFTBALL NETS CUNYAC SWEEP OF WEEKLY HONORS

The Dolphins were limited in play, but after a weekend sweep of Lehman College, the College of Staten Island women's softball team did enough damage to score a sweep of CUNYAC weekly honors.  Senior Jacqueline Cautela earned Player of the Week honors, Patricia Riches took home her second Rookie of the Week honor, and junior Nicolette Trapani took home Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.

No stranger to honors for her work in the pitcher's circle, Cautela did it at the plate and in the circle during the weekend rout at Lehman.  Cautela batted a heavy .714 (5-7) with three RBI and five runs scored.  She was also the winning pitcher of record in the opening contest, running her scoreless streak to 21 innings with three more innings of work at Lehman.  she did not allow a hit while fanning seven, walking just one batter.  For the season, Cautela is batting .412, with a team best 13 runs scored while third on the team with 6 RBI. In the circle, she is 4-0 this season with a 0.26 ERA. She has allowed just 15 hits and 1 earned run in 27 innings, fanning 18.

Patricia Riches was once again the most dominating player at the dish this weekend, taking her second Rookie honor.  The shortstop batted an improbable .857 with a slugging percentage or 2.286. She broke the school record with seven RBI in the second game of the doubleheader, and had a grand slam in the first game as well. Her two homers in the second contest tied five other Dolphins for the school record there as well.  All told he posted 12 RBI on the weekend and six runs scored.  For the season, Riches is batting .656 (21-32) with a team-best 16 RBI. She has four doubles and three homers, giving her a slugging percentage of 1.063.

Rounding out the honorees was Trapani, the reigning CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year.  Trapani tossed a one-hit shutout against Lehman on Saturday with 12 strikeouts, the second highest single game total in her career. For the season, she is now 2-2 with a 2.04 ERA. She has allowed just four walks in 24 innings while leading the team with 20 strikeouts.

The Dolphins next contests will be played on Thursday, for their home opener against Stockton University.  First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
