BOXSCORE - The College of Staten Island men's tennis team put the sting of yesterday's tight loss behind them, rebounding nicely with an 8-1 win over City College of New York in their CUNYAC opener player at Purchase College this afternoon.  CSI leveled to 1-1 overall and 1-0 within the CUNYAC, while the Beavers fell to 1-3, 0-3, respectively.

CSI got off to a great start after doubles, securing a comfortable 3-0 lead.  Andrew Adia and Tony Francis picked up a win at No. 3 by a score of 8-2, and one flight up, Chris Pinto and Matthew Vesci followed suit with an 8-3 winner.  In the most heavily-contended match, CSI's Chris Livoti and Alex Tsui were able to outlast CCNY duo Max Bernstein and Andrew Bregman by an 8-5 count in a match that went back-and-forth.

Brian Chen was able to score CCNY's only win in singles with a straight-set winner over CSI's Aldo Rodriguez, but from there CSI was able to hold court and win every flight in straight sets.  Livoti scored a win in the top spot over Bernstein 6-2, 6-3, and Pinto won in the No. 2 position with the same scores in reverse.  Vesci, at No. 3, perhaps put up the most dominant performance, scoring a heavy-handed 6-3, 6-0, winner over Alejandro Varela.  In the No. 5 flight, fellow freshman Tsui was able to score a 6-0 win in the first set against Andrew Chen, then was able to weather a Chen flurry in the second set to hold on, 7-5.

With CSI level at 1-1, they will have the next two days off before returning to action on Tuesday, March 22, to take on Berkeley College (NY) for a non-conference contest at 4pm.
