HUNTER HANDS CSI FIRST CUNYAC LOSS, 7-2

Nozima Toshpulatova excelled in the No. 1 Singles position
The College of Staten Island women's tennis team suffered their first loss inside the CUNYAC this season, falling to Hunter College, 7-2, in a match played late this afternoon at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.  The Dolphins leveled to 3-3 with the loss and fell to 2-1 in the CUNYAC, while the Hawks lifted to 3-3, 2-0, respectively.

Hunter took a crucial 2-1 lead after doubles.  The CSI team of Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla had their way in the No. 2 spot, besting Sara Beck and Paulina Szegda, 8-0, but Hunter was victorious in the first and third flights.  The CSI team of Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnir gave a good effort in the top spot, but ultimately fell in their flight to HC's Julia Vranas and Abigail Rojas, 8-4.

In Singles, Hunter had their way again, winning all but one flight.  Toshpulatova did the honors, posting a hard-fought 6-2, 6-02, winner over Rojas.  The Dolphins were on the receiving end of a couple of tough three-set losses as well.  In the No. 2 slot, Bragerton-Nasert lost a tough decision, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, to Vranas, while Mulla suffered a 6-2, 5-7, 10-7, loss to Abigail Usherenko in the No. 4 spot.  In another close encounter, HC's Szegda defeated Kushnir in the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 7-5.

CSI will next play on Monday, September 29, when they go back to National Tennis Center to take on John Jay College for another conference test at 4pm.
