CSI BLANKS YORK IN MEN'S TENNIS

The College of Staten Island men's tennis squad got back in the win column today in dominating fashion, scoring a lop-sided, 9-0, win over visiting York College at the CSI Tennis Center.  The Dolphins improved to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in CUNYAC play, while the Cardinals fell to 4-9, 1-6, respectively.

The Dolphins were in control from start to finish, beginning with doubles play.  In the top-spot, CSI's Timur Shamuradov and Dan Ursomanno powered to an 8-2 win over YC's Hasnain Khatri and Jay Pal.  One flight lower, Chris Pinto and Austin Kapetanakis were equally impressive in an 8-1 win, and down at No. 3, Ed Ruffe and James Chuenpratum made short work of Anthony Omoragbon and Elnathan Atwell, 8-0.

Kapetanakis (No. 4), and Ruffe (No. 5) both turned in 6-0, 6-0, performances in singles, while both Chuenpratum (No. 6) and Shamuradov (No. 1) only lost a single game in their wins.  At No. 2, Ursomanno scored a steady, 6-2, 6-2, win over Pal.  The most competitive match came at No. 3, where CSI's Pinto locked horns with Khatri.  Pinto narrowly bested Khatri, 7-6, in the opening set, before Khatri looked dominant in a 6-2 win, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker.  Khatri had an early lead, but Pinto flipped the script, ultimately taking a 10-6 winner and giving CSI the shutout.

CSI will next be in action on Wednesday evening against John Jay College in what will be their regular season and CUNYAC-finale.  The match will be played at the National Tennis Center in Flushing at 6pm.
