STATEN ISLAND, NY – In what could be an epic battle and preview of what is to come at the CUNYAC Championship later in the season, the College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming team took on defending conference champion, Baruch College, where the men proved to be victorious positing a 178-140 win over the Bearcats, while the CSI women's team fell 89-150, Wednesday.

At the conclusion of the evening's events, the Staten Island men are now 3-0, 1-0 CUNYAC, while the women slip to 3-1 overall, 1-1 CUNYAC.

The women kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:13.36, while the men followed with a season-best time of 1:32.39 (
Yury Zimarev, Tim Sweeney,
Derek Villa and
Danila Novikov).

Despite finishing no better than second throughout the swimming events, the women's team registered a pair of season-breaking times.
Kelly Walsh clocked a time of 28.94 in the 50 freestyle, beating the old time by 0.66 seconds. Walsh then went on to join teammates Priscilla Alvarez,
Hunter Dawkins and
Naomi Gaggi in the 200 freestyle relay, where they posted a season-best 1:58.37 in the event.

On the men's side, it was a night of highlights and season-best times. Sweeney led off the record-breaking times for the men as he clocked in a time of 1:50.42 in the 200 freestyle, which was good enough for first. Zimarev followed with a win in the 50 free and posted a season-best 22.39.

Novikov was the first to hit the wall in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 1:58.40. Â After the diving break, Villa managed to grab the top-spot in the 100 butterfly (52.02), followed by Sweeney's second first place finish with a time of 4:58.71 in the 500 freestyle.

Earning his second title of the evening was Novikov as he knocked an incredible 16 seconds off the previous season-best, hitting the wall at the 1:01.59 mark.

Both the men's and women's diving teams took each of their respective events, with
April Bartlett registered the top spot in both the 1-meter (126.40) and 3-meter (133.20). On the men's side, it was
John Pignatelli who dominated the boards receiving season-best scores of 131.25 on the 1-meter and a 111.15 in the 3-meter, placing first in both.

The Dolphins now have a break in the action, giving them plenty of time of prepare for conference foe, Brooklyn College, for the second time this season. CSI plays host to the Bulldogs Tues., Nov. 19, with the first event scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
