Box Score It was a tough fought battle in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals between the College of Staten Island and John Jay College as the two men's soccer programs competed for a chance to move on to the conference semifinals. While both teams gave their all, it was the Dolphins who emerged victorious, edging out the Bloodhounds, 1-0, Wednesday at the CSI Soccer Complex.
With the win, Staten Island improve to 9-10-1 overall (5-3 CUNYAC), while John Jay completed its 2013 season at 4-14 (4-4 CUNYAC). The victory also extends the Dolphins winning-streak to five, marking the longest winning-streak for the men's soccer program since the 2004 season when Head Coach Vito Veneruso led CSI to a 9-9-2 overall record, and a third place CUNYAC finish.
Both teams played a great defensive game, leaving the game scoreless after the first 45-minutes of play. However, come the 56
th minute of play the Dolphins were able to find a seam in the Bloodhounds defense as
Brandon Cadmen took a free kick that traveled to the top of the penalty box where it found the foot of
Thomas Vazquez. The junior then chipped the ball towards the goal and connected with
Marcin Klim, who managed to sneak a shot past John Jay goalkeeper Vitecha Kochaon. The game-winning shot put CSI up 1-0 and solidified its spot in the CUNYAC Semifinals.
Staten Island led the offensive attack, outshooting the Bloodhounds 17-5. CSI's
Antonio Lynch protected the goal and posted three saves, while Kochaon tallied five saves for the John Jay.
