Box Score The College of Staten Island women's volleyball team ended their season on a very positive note, coming from behind to defeat visiting York College by a 3-1 count on a anight when the Dolphins would honor lone senior
JeanMarie Lewandowski. CSI fell in the first set 26-24, but rebounded to score the next three wins by scores of 25-27, 25-19, and 25-10. The Dolphins improved to 3-20 overall and 1-7 in CUNYAC, while York fell to 6-20, 2-6, respectively.
The evening started well, as the Dolphins honored lone senior and captain Jean Marie Lewandowski. The third-year senior then tallied a team-high 22 assists, along with four aces and six digs, to help lead the team to victory. York, however was the victors in game one, scattering a game high 13 kills in the game. The turning point, however, would be in the second stanza.
The Cardinals took a monster, 12-4, lead early on, prompting a CSI time out. That sparked the Dolphins, who then rallied to take a 14-13 lead, as they went on a 10-1 run. CSi was helped along by the service ace, as CSI scattered 24 total in the match, led by
Brittany Minondo's six. From there, CSI took care of business. In the third game, the Dolphins hit at an attack rate of .208. In game four, The Dolphins led wie-to-wire, looking dominant in a 25-10 win.
CSI saw a breakout game from
Siobhan Granich, as the frosh tallied a team-high 9 kills to go with three aces and 9 digs.
Selma Kolenovic tallied seven kills to go with four aces, while
Victoria Wong led all scorers with 16 digs. York was led by Stayce Kay Muirhead's 13 kills on 30 attacks Allison Li added 14 digs.
Although unofficial, it appears that the season has come to an end for the Dolphins. The team is tied for the eighth and final CUNYAC playoff spot with Medgar Evers, but with the Cougars winning the head-to-head battle this season, it would appear that the Dolphins are on the outside looking in. Still, the team has a lot to be proud of, one that includes a big win tonight in their season finale.
