College of Staten Island men's tennis ace
Nicholas Zikos, the 2011 City University of New York Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Year is currently participating at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, as part of the USTA/ITA Division III Regional Championship. The sophomore is officially off to a great start, scoring a three-set victory over Hamilton College's Jordan Petite, advancing to the round of 32 individuals later this evening.
Zikos, who will be pairing with CSI senior
Riad Hamai in doubles competition, will face New York University's Steven Wu, who is seeded 9-16. The ITA seeds the top four individuals, then places four more inviduals at 5-8, and another eight at 9-16. Zikos and Petite were both unranked coming in.
Petite got the better of Zikos in the first set, 6-4, before Zikos broke service to respond with a 6-4 win of his own in the second, setting up a third set tiebreaker, won again by Zikos in dramatic fashion, 11-9.
