Web Action- Tombasco Ball
Natalie Tombasco led with two goals and an assist in tonight's win against NYU-Polytechnic.
The College of Staten Island women's soccer team got off to a promising start to the 2010 campaign, coasting to a 9-1 win in their season and home opener against the NYU-Polytechnic Fighting Blue Jays.  The Dolphins, who outshot their opponents 46-1, will start their season 1-0 while the Fighting Blue Jays, playing in their first intercollegiate contest as a varsity program, begin their season 0-1.

The Dolphins wasted little time, hitting paydirt at the 5:19 mark when freshman Demi-Jean Martorano scored her first career tally, grabbing a turnover  and striking one in from the left side of the goal mouth passed NYU-Poly keeper Catherine Mistretta.

Less than three minutes later, CSI made it 2-0 on a Paige Buono hammer-home shot via a Natalie Tombasco entry pass.  By the time the first half was said and done, Tombasco scored her own goal at 11:15, Martorano added her second at 24:13, and captain Lauren Neglia came in unabated for another to make it 5-0 at the half.

CSI added four more markers in the second half, including another first career tally, this time by Cassandra Black at 56:33.  NYU-Poly did get a great highlight at the 86:01 mark, when Annamarie Smith corralled a would-be clear-out attempt and struck her pass for a goal behind CSI's Danielle McLaghlin to came in to play the second half.  Six different scorers cracked the scoring column for CSI, who also owned a 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

CSI is back in action on Saturday, when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 12 Noon non-conference contest.
