It’s been a pretty memorable 2010 for CSI hurler Pat Gale. The junior put a pretty large punctuation mark on an outstanding season by being named today to the American Baseball Coaches Association / Rawlings All-America First-Team, the first CSI baseball player to accomplish the feat, and one of the top honors to be bestowed on an NCAA baseball player. The heavy accomplishment is another feather in the cap of a CSI program that hammered down it’s 14th CUNYAC Championship in its 33-year history. Gale joined 13 other honorees on the First-Team that comprised a total of 10 teams. Gale was one of only seven players who made the first team as a non-senior, as he will return for his final effort in 2011.
The latest honor for the southpaw Gale, who earned an 8-2 record with a 2.09 ERA in 77+ innings, is an accentuation to other notable achievements thrown his way. Within a span of only a few weeks Gale was named the CUNY Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year, and on the heels of winning the CSI Athletics Male Athlete of the Year award, Gale earned First-Team All-Region honors from the ABCA/Rawlings and a D3Baseball.com All-American Honorable Mention.
Gale led the Dolphins to their best season in history, amassing a 31-11 record, a CUNYAC title, and a ECAC Metro NY/NJ Postseason Tournament berth. CSI just missed an at-large berth in the NCAA National Tournament when Pool B selections were announced in mid-May.
As for Gale, the junior appeared in every contest pitching, playing first base, or in the designated hitter role. He shined in all avenues. Posting an 8-2 mark on the mound, he also batted a heavy .418, scattering a team-best 69 hits, 47 RBI, and five triples, boasting a .985 glove in the field as well. Along the way Gale broke or tied a total of eight CSI single-game, single-season, or career records, making 2010 an extraordinary year in almost every facet of the game.
