JOHN JAY GETS BETTER OF CSI IN LAST OF A THREE-GAME SET

Nick Tingos grabbed the win on the mound for CSI pitching 8 innings and allowing just three hits.

The College of Staten Island men’s baseball team failed to complete a three-game CUNYAC sweep over John Jay College, as the host Bloodhounds retired the Dolphins by a 5-2 count at American Legion Field in Brooklyn this afternoon to complete their weekend three-game set. The loss pulled CSI down to 17-7 overall and 5-1 in the CUNYAC, while Bloodhounds raised their records to 6-21, 4-5, respectively.

After beating the Bloodhounds in a pair yesterday by a combined 29-7 score, the Dolphins seemed poised to extend their perfect CUNYAC record this afternoon, but it was not to be, as the John Jay duo of Alex Rodriguez and Hector Class on the mound hushed the Dolphins bats for a majority of the game.

John Jay was crisp at the dish as well, getting out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a RBI singles by Benjamin Biero and Jason Witten off of CSI starter Nick Tingos, who gave up eight hits in the first two innings only to give up three over the last 4.1 innings he pitched.

CSI got even in the second when a Thomas DeWaters single plated Matt Oetting and Mark Glennerster, but the Bloodhounds broke off another pair of runs in their second inning turn, highlighted by a Perez triple, who later scored as well.

After that, the John Jay performance on the mound took care of business, allowing no runs the rest of the way on three hits. CSI was outhit, 11-6, after scattering a total of 37 hits in the doubleheader yesterday.

CSI will return to action on Tuesday at the CSI Baseball Complex, when they host Manhattanville College for a single game under the lights at 6:30pm.
