2010 MSwim at Nationals

The NCAA Division III National Swimming & Diving Championship is set to get underway today and extend through the weekend at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and with it comes another installment in the quest for gold for the College of Staten Island men’s swimming and diving team. Led by Head Coach Oleg Soloviev, the Dolphins are sending three swimmers to nationals, all with sights set on medaling.

Three-time gold medalist Pavel Buyanov is the leader of the pack and the two-time defending national champion in the 100-yard Breaststroke event. Buyanov will compete in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events this week and will also be featured in the 50-yard freestyle, putting him in the hunt for three medals. Fellow junior Nikolay Shevchenko improved dramatically over the last two years in his signature butterfly event, and this year he will add a national performance in the 200-yard Individual Medley as well. Finally, sophomore Vladislav Romanov, who got his first taste of Nationals last year and has also improved his marks significantly, will compete in his signature 100- and 200-yard Backstroke events and will be side-by-side with teammate Shevchenko in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

All legs of the competition take place at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center and you can view the entire championship live through the NCAA by clicking here. Results can be viewed live by clicking here. Select video highlights recapping the day’s events can also be seen here
