The College of Staten Island Men’s Basketball took a 98-78 victory over the New York City Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. The men of CSI extended their CUNYAC to 6-6 and 11-12 overall. The Yellow jackets drop to a 1-12 CUNYAC record and a 2-12 overall record.
 
The Dolphins took off at the jump as they took a 14 point lead in the first four minutes of play. CSI stretched their lead to the max at 25 with 1:19 remaining. Finishing the half up, 58-34, there were three Dolphins players finished the half in double digits. Ryan Hennessey hit five three-pointers totaling 19 points while Christian Montervino had 11 points and Jordan Young hit 7-for-9 from the field totaling 16 points.
 
Young started the second half for CSI hitting three back-to-back layups to help the Dolphins to a 31 point lead just two minutes in. The closest the Dolphins would let City tech come was a 20 point cushion which came in the last 20 seconds of the game with two made free throws by Gabriel Davis.
 
The Dolphins showed the meaning of team-play as they tallied 31 assists compared to City Tech’s one assist. The Yellow Jackets our-rebounded CSI 37 to 34. Both teams shot well from the foul line with CSI shooting 70.6% and City Tech shooting 83.7%. The Yellow Jackets scored 36 of their points from the free throw line.
 
Young had a monster game for the Dolphins with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Hennessey finished with 23 points and 7 assists. Montervino had 21 points and five assists. Dale Taranto added 10 points and four steals.
 
Davis led City Tech with 31 points while Lewis Callendar tallied in 25 points shooting 21 for 25 from the foul line.
 
Being the Dolphins last home game of the regular season, the team’s honored their two senior’s Ryan Hennessey and Christian Montervino in a pre-game ceremony.
 
The Dolphins will travel to Brooklyn College tomorrow Sunday, February 14th for a 1:00 pm game. The game was supposed to be played on Wednesday evening but was canceled due to snow.

Nikki Fabozzi
Women's Basketball
Nikki Fabozzi of women’s basketball has been named College of Staten Island’s Female Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
Fabozzi led CSI with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in their first conference win of the season over York. In CSI’s four games in December, Fabozzi has averaged 13 points, totaled 18 rebounds and grabbed 9 steals.
 
The 5-9 guard is the 2nd best rounder on the team totaling 48 rebounds thus far this season. Starting in 9 of the 10 games she’s played in, she leads the team in steals with 29 and averages 10.8 points per game.
 
Vladislav Romanov
Men's Swimming
Vlad Romanov of the men’s swimming team has been named College of Staten Island’s Male Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
He began the month at the ECAC DIII Open. After two days of events, Romanov took first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay alongside teammates Timur Rakihimov, Yury Zimarev and Danila Novikov with a 1:32.77 finish that was a NCAA B Cut qualifier.
His 1:49.97 200 Yard Backstroke time was also good enough for first place.  
Romanov completed the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 51.02 which was a new CSI record and new ECAC Record. It also qualified him for the NCAA’s.
 
In the 200 IM, he took 3rd place, finishing at 1:53.85, his personal best and an NCAA B Cut. In the 200 Freestyle Relay with Rakihimov, Zimarev and Novikov they took 2nd place touching in at 1:27.73. Finally in the 400 Medley Relay, the same foursome took first place, touching at 3:23.73 which was also an NCAA B Cut qualifier and a new ECAC record.
 
In the meet vs. Brooklyn College, he took three first place wins.
