The College of Staten Island Men’s Swimming and Diving team defeated Lehman College133-108 while the Women’s team dropped the meet, 141-90. The CSI men are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the CUNYAC. The women are now 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the CUNYAC.
On the women’s side, Gabriella Villarruel had three first place wins. In the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Villarruel came in at 13:18.96 and in the 100 Yard Butterfly she timed in at 1:08.69. Villarruel broke the CSI school record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.46. The record was held by Carolina Wroblewski in 2004 with a time of 2:32.28. Patricia Crea tackled two gold wins with a score of 163.35 in the 3 Meter Dive and a time of 1:21.83 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
The men totaled 11 golden wins including two individual wins apiece from Vladislav Romanov, Pavel Buyanov, Nikolay Shevchenko and Joe Lee. The Dolphins also saw wins in both relays. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay consisted of Lee, Mohamed Hikal, Romanov and Andy Stumpf and the touched at 1:40.50. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Michal Mino, Buyanov, Shevchenko and Hikal came in at 1:48.99.
The women’s team will travel to Hunter College on Wednesday, January 20th for a 3:00 pm meet while both teams will be back in play on Wednesday, January 27th at 6:00 pm as they host Old Westbury.
