DOLPHINS DROP TWO IN DREW TOURNAMENT;WILLIAM PATERSON TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP

The CSI Men's Soccer team will finish 4-14-1 for the 2008 season.

The Dolphins completed a 0-2 run this weekend in the Drew University Tournament in Madison, New Jersey. CSI was defeated by William Paterson on Saturday afternoon with by a 4-0 victory while Sunday’s game saw Arcadia University take a 2-0 win over the Dolphins. CSI finishes the weekend with an 0-3 overall record.

 

In Saturday’s contest, Staten Island tallied just three shots while goalie Andrew Brown made a total of 15 saves. Willy P’s Julian Valerio had two goals, one in each of the halves.

 

Arcadia and Drew tied in the day’s match with a score of 0-0.

 

In Sunday’s match, the Dolphins totaled seven shots including two on goal. Brown saved five in goal for CSI. Zachery Todd of Arcadia scored both goals in the team’s victory.

 

William Paterson and Drew tied in the day’s event giving the Pioneers of WP the tournament victory.

 

The Dolphins will host Polytech University on Wednesday at 3:30 pm. On Saturday afternoon the Dolphins will travel to the New Jersey City University Tournament where they will play against both FDU-Florham and the host school. Competition begins Saturday at 12:00 pm followed by Sunday’s contest also at 12:00 pm.

Nikki Fabozzi
Women's Basketball
Nikki Fabozzi of women’s basketball has been named College of Staten Island’s Female Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
Fabozzi led CSI with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in their first conference win of the season over York. In CSI’s four games in December, Fabozzi has averaged 13 points, totaled 18 rebounds and grabbed 9 steals.
 
The 5-9 guard is the 2nd best rounder on the team totaling 48 rebounds thus far this season. Starting in 9 of the 10 games she’s played in, she leads the team in steals with 29 and averages 10.8 points per game.
 
Vladislav Romanov
Men's Swimming
Vlad Romanov of the men’s swimming team has been named College of Staten Island’s Male Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
He began the month at the ECAC DIII Open. After two days of events, Romanov took first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay alongside teammates Timur Rakihimov, Yury Zimarev and Danila Novikov with a 1:32.77 finish that was a NCAA B Cut qualifier.
His 1:49.97 200 Yard Backstroke time was also good enough for first place.  
Romanov completed the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 51.02 which was a new CSI record and new ECAC Record. It also qualified him for the NCAA’s.
 
In the 200 IM, he took 3rd place, finishing at 1:53.85, his personal best and an NCAA B Cut. In the 200 Freestyle Relay with Rakihimov, Zimarev and Novikov they took 2nd place touching in at 1:27.73. Finally in the 400 Medley Relay, the same foursome took first place, touching at 3:23.73 which was also an NCAA B Cut qualifier and a new ECAC record.
 
In the meet vs. Brooklyn College, he took three first place wins.
