Ramy Hennedy led the Dolphins with a pair of shots, but York was too much for CSI.

The College of Staten Island men’s soccer team fell for the fifth straight outing, dropping a 5-0 decision at the hands of York College in a CUNYAC affair held in Jamaica, New York, on Saturday afternoon.  York broke open the game with four second-half goals.  The Cardinals improved to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in the CUNYAC, while CSI fell to 3-14, 2-6, respectively.

The game started promisingly for the Dolphins, as the first half was a defensive stalemate. York outshot the Dolphins, 8-5, but only 2-1 in shots on goal and both teams seemed balanced.

York broke through, however, with a late first half goal. With 5:53 to go in the first frame, Hugo Cicanois broke in and fired one past CSI keeper Andrew Brown to give the home team a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The half proved to be a wakeup call for the Cardinals as the home team then erupted for a scoring skein. York outshot CSI, 13-2, in the second half (10-1 on goal), and play was dominated in the CSI end of the field.

York doubled the lead with a Sergio Restrepo goal at the 58:26 mark off of a crisp feed by Elysse Vilsaint. From there, again, play tightened and the CSI defense kept York off of the scoreboard. That is, until the final 13 minutes of the contest, as York dripped in three more goals, including two within a 3:57 span to put the game completely out of reach.

The clean game featured just a total of 12 foul whistles and only one caution (CSI’s Ramy Hennedy). York enjoyed a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

CSI will be back in action on Wednesday when they host CCNY at 3:30pm. The game could go a long way in determining playoff seeding. The Dolphins are positioned in 9th place while the Beavers are in 8th and would stand to receive the final playoff bid. Should CSI wish to advance to the postseason playoffs, a win over CCNY would almost certainly have to be in order.
