FARMINGDALE HOLDS WOMEN'S SOCCER SCORELESS, 8-0

The CSI women's soccer team finalizes its season at 3-11-2 for 2009.
The College of Staten Island’s women’s soccer team dropped a 8-0 match to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex. The Dolphins fall to a 3-7-2 record while the Rams of Farmingdale extend to a 9-3 record.
 
The Rams scored three of their nine goals in the first half. Melissa Elie scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Shannon Kalogeras 21 minutes into the game. Less than two minutes later, Christina Merrill scored on an unassisted play on a breakaway shot to put the score at 2-0. With six minutes remaining in the half, Rebecca Richman tallied the team’s third goal on a chip shot from the right side.
 
Katrina Cerverizzo took the second half’s first two goals. Her first was six minutes in and the second was three minutes later on a breakaway shot. Just seven minutes later, Jamie Smith kicked a loose ball into the net to put the score at 6-0. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Corine Magee scored with a goal from the right side just past CSI goalie Jessica Levy. The final goal of the game was scored with three minutes left by Nicole Sinacori with a high kick to upper right side of the goal.
 
The Dolphins totaled just five shots, the Rams tallied 43 shots.
 
CSI goalies Jessica Levy and Kelly Kenny combined for a total of 18 saves.
 
CSI will travel to Old Westbury, NY for a 1:00 pm game against the College at Old Westbury on Saturday, October 17th.

Vladislav Romanov
Men's Swimming
Vlad Romanov of the men’s swimming team has been named College of Staten Island’s Male Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
He began the month at the ECAC DIII Open. After two days of events, Romanov took first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay alongside teammates Timur Rakihimov, Yury Zimarev and Danila Novikov with a 1:32.77 finish that was a NCAA B Cut qualifier.
His 1:49.97 200 Yard Backstroke time was also good enough for first place.  
Romanov completed the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 51.02 which was a new CSI record and new ECAC Record. It also qualified him for the NCAA’s.
 
In the 200 IM, he took 3rd place, finishing at 1:53.85, his personal best and an NCAA B Cut. In the 200 Freestyle Relay with Rakihimov, Zimarev and Novikov they took 2nd place touching in at 1:27.73. Finally in the 400 Medley Relay, the same foursome took first place, touching at 3:23.73 which was also an NCAA B Cut qualifier and a new ECAC record.
 
In the meet vs. Brooklyn College, he took three first place wins.
Nikki Fabozzi
Women's Basketball
Nikki Fabozzi of women’s basketball has been named College of Staten Island’s Female Athlete of the Month for December 2011.
 
Fabozzi led CSI with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in their first conference win of the season over York. In CSI’s four games in December, Fabozzi has averaged 13 points, totaled 18 rebounds and grabbed 9 steals.
 
The 5-9 guard is the 2nd best rounder on the team totaling 48 rebounds thus far this season. Starting in 9 of the 10 games she’s played in, she leads the team in steals with 29 and averages 10.8 points per game.
