CSI's Athletics Staff and men's baseball team supported the women's soccer team's first annual Kick For a Cure- Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

The College of Staten Island women’s soccer team erased a five-game winless skid with a one-sided victory over visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent, 9-0, in a non-conference affair held at the CSI Soccer Complex earlier this afternoon. The win upped the Dolphins overall mark to 3-6-2, while MSV fell to 0-10.  The game also marked CSI women's soccer first-ever Kick for a Cure event, helping raise Breast Cancer Awareness.  All proceeds generated from the event were donated to the Staten Island Breast Cancer Research Initiative.

CSI wanted to set the tone early, and managed to do so by scoring a pair of goals early. Just 8:25 into the game, Tina Chechel rang in the games first goal with a hard shot from the right side from a Lauen Neglia pass. Exactly one minute later, Neglia scored her very own goal when she was left alone on the left side off of a turnover.

CSI added two more tallies in the first half, both by Neglia, who scored the natural hat trick. Both goals were scored on fast-break, one-on-one, opportunities when Neglia stole passes near midfield. Mt. St. Vincent keeper Michelle Miller was faced with a 4-0 halftime deficit despite recording 12 saves, a couple of which in amazing fashion.

CSI scored another five goals in the second half, including one each by Christina Sgarlato and Kelly Kenny, and another two by Tina Chechel, who joined Neglia with a hat trick. Finally, Ednita Lorenzo buried in a header off of a sterling, bending entry pass by Christina Jacob.

CSI outshot MSV, 43-7 (26-3 on goal), and enjoyed a comfortable edge in corner kick opportunities, 16-3. Mayda Perdomo scored three saves in the shutout win, while Miller saved 17 shots in defeat. Valerie Incontrera plugged in two assists for CSI as well.

CSI will host Farmingdale State on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30pm in their next contest.
